Just a few of the many sites you will see in Historic St. Marys

St. Marys Family Aquatic Center
Welcome to St. Marys newest summer adventure! This brand new 7 acre waterplay area has something for the whole family. Adults can relax in a tube as you float around the park in the endless river or get in some exercise swimming in the lap pool. There is also a two story tall slide full of twists and turns that is sure to be exciting. Kids are not forgotten here. Kids over four feet tall can ride the big slide, but the big attraction for the little ones is the playpool with dozens of ways to squirt, spray and splatter your friends with gallons of water. Park hours: Monday - Friday 11am to 6pm; Saturdays 10am to 6pm; and Sundays 1pm to 6pm. 912-673-8118
Howard Gilman Memorial Park
One of the newest addition in St. Marys, the park officially opened on June 30, 2001 but it wasn't until 4 days later the park would see its first real guests. On July 4th it was standing room only as thousands of area residents packed the newly opened waterfront park to catch a glimpse at the 33rd annual fireworks display. What better way to celebrate our Nations Birth and the opening of a waterfront park than a spectacular display of color and beauty.
The waterfront park is perfect for a wedding or any special event. Don't miss the Tilden Norris Marsh Walk a short walk from the waterfront park.
Take a virtual tour of the park.

Cumberland Island National Seashore Museum
The new facility is located on Osborne Street, two blocks from the waterfront. The museum houses a collection of artifacts from Cumberland Island and includes an exhibit area open to the public. The exhibition uses pieces from the collection to highlight the people of the island. The lives of Native Americans, African Americans, the Carnegie family as well as others who lived on the island in the 19th and 20th centuries are seen in the island environment. This is the first major effort to bring the island story to mainland facilities. A small portion of the total collection will be on display, primarily pieces that illustrate life on the barrier island. "These are objects that have never before been on public display," said curator John Mitchell. "We can learn from these items about how people lived in the past."
Operation Hours - 1:00 pm till 4:00 pm

Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge

"Land of the Trembling Earth"

The Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge is 45 minutes from Historic St. Marys. It is a rare experience for every member of the family. Naturally beautiful, the swamp (nearly a half-million acres), carries you back into the world's prehistory. Interpretative exhibits, lectures, wildlife shows, boat tours on original Indian Waterways, wilderness walkways, Pioneer Island, native animals in their own habitat, all combine to weave a spell of pioneer American life. You will witness where primitive man ruled the wilds, where Indians hunted and fishes, and where early settlers sought peace and communed with nature. You can see how nature still controls the environment and how nature's balance assures the perpetuation of the flora and fauna, and the swamp itself. For information: East Entrance call (866) 843-7926 or Visitor Center (912) 496-7836. North Entrance (912) 283-0583.
